Jordan needs to brush up on his shamanism. What he described was a rough outline for a shamanic journey to the Upper World. We're in the Middle World. The Lower World is more commonly used for soul retrieval (during trauma part of the soul must flee or die and the shaman finds it for the patient), or healing. The Upper World is typically to gain knowledge/wisdom and information.
These are all generalizations, as each culture has different symbology. But the basic FORMS of practice are pretty much Universal in cultures around the world.

It sounds very cool. It is not so thrilling when you are doing it. I would rather do what make sense than reenact something that maybe partially misunderstood. If something feels the right thing to do, I think is more valuable than trying to behave like you are an actor in a new Harry Potter movie. When people were forcing their reality to their ancestral prophecies, it always turned out twisted and they were less than satisfied. It was not how forcing was planted. People can get seriously hurt when others think they are their guinea pig or their lab experiment. If someone wants to experiment, they can on their own selves.
