Toyota has unveiled its long awaited 5th generation Supra for 2020 with sleek styling and a powerful powertrain. Car enthusiasts may be put off that the new Supra is not available with a manual transmission, but at least it's rear-wheel drive.

So, why is there not any mention that it is a BMW Z4 under the sheet metal?

People buy Toyotas for their reliability. The Supra has a BMW engine and other BMW manufactured components. I would expect lowered reliability and higher costs for repair.

Finally- I can have the reliability and operating cost of a BMW along with the brand appeal and dealer service of Toyota! This is a rebodied BMW Z4, but with only 335 hp instead of 382.

I am the demographic Toyota should have been targeting with the Supra. I have owned 4, and currently still own three (two1985 Celica Supras and one 1998 Supra) in which all have manual transmissions.

This car may be a decent vehicle, but in no way does it deserve to be called Supra. The FT-1 had the right dimensions and proportions. This "Supra" is short and stubby. It should have been longer and more substantial looking in terms of overall size. The Supra has always been a 4-seater in the past. I wish Toyota kept with the 2+2 configuration to maintain its historic setup but also create a vehicle in which owners can take kids out in for a fun drive. The usability is drastically reduced by making this vehicle strictly a 2 seater. The car use to compete with world class sports cars in its last iterations (Corvette, NSX, 300ZX, 3000GT/Stealth, M3) and now has been downgraded to more of an entry level performer. The new Supra should have come with a minimum of 400 hp and a MANUAL transmission.

The car as a whole is very underwhelming. Supra should represent Toyota's flagship. It should be all out amazing, top tier in every category. This new vehicle simply does not perform on paper better than other sports cars. It appears to be a very poor attempt to capitalize on a legend, the Supra name. What is really happening here is the dilution of the Supra heritage and legacy.

This car should have been so much more. In no way does this new A90 Supra represent what should be the follow up to the previous generations Supras.

This attempt by Toyota reminds me of the last generation Celica and MR2 (MRSpider) that was developed. Simply poor executions of follow up cars to the legendary 94-99 Celica (all-wheel drive and turbo motor for the Celica in certain markets) and the 91-95 MR2. These nameplates had horrible send offs with their last generations. Now, it appears as if the Supra name will be drug through the mud like those other two famous nameplates were previously.

Just my 2 cents, this car may be an ok sports car, but it is no Supra. Twenty years has gone by since we saw a new Supra being sold in the US, the come back we Supra fans/owners expected to see has not been delivered.

No, the supra is NOT in the Corvette and Porsche territory because it CAN'T break sub 4 seconds 0-60mph.
