When I was a kid, we drilled for atomic bombs by getting under our desks. They were nuke-proof back then. Not one of us kids ever died from a nuke thanks to the desks that made bombing America pointless. We would have survived, but... there are no super desks left.

I have been armed everyday that I have been in the US for over 27 years. That said, I grasp probability and thus worry about slips in the shower way more than getting killed in a mass shooting.

As an ex kindergarten teacher I can say that just as many kids who were helped with just fire drills the others were traumatized. The become fearful of loud noises. When our district enacted mandatory lockdowns kids cried and were constantly looking over their shoulders for people who would harm all of them when in reality almost all lockdowns are not dire.
Next big fix will be to warn us not to be near windows, don’t go outside, don’t go inside, don’t make noises and don’t look at anyone.
