The gas they discovered was not cold. according to the infrared telescopes it is extremely hot gas flowing away from the supermassive black hole Sgr A* or Sagittarius A star, in the core of our galaxy. This is no mystery because it was predicted by general relativity back in 2004 after the theory was updated. According to general relativity super hot energy and gas is spewing from the surface of the supermassive black hole in several long streams. The hot gas can clearly be observed using infrared, X-ray and radio telescopes.
