Oh my. Crazy Zal on lead. John mistakenly singing the chorus at 0:41. Wild close-ups on unsuspecting group members. This was what you call a fun mess and I loved every second of it.

I’ll take a live hot mess performance like this over mimed any day!

Don't you just love it on a lot of videos of bands playing live when the lead guitarist plays a solo, the camera shoots everyone and everything EXCEPT the guitarist while they are playing the solo? Being a guitarist myself, it has become a huge pet peeve of mine :(

Love how Zal adds the little “Hello” at the very beginning of this little ditty! This really actually reveals how each of the members played and acted around live! Love it!

Yes indeed a 1920's style song right in the middle of the 1960's - and a hit at that ! Bravo to the LOVIN' SPOONFUL !

What a phenomenal band, so many classics. Not their best song, but still has some great energy. One of my all time favorite bands.

saw the Lovin Spoonful open for the beach boys in 66. No contest, Spoonful all the way. And they weren't augmented with 4 or 5 auxiliary players like the beach boys. Zally the BEST!!

Well that was an unexpected performance. I thought John Sebastian did all the lead singing. Didn't realize Zal Yanovsky sung lead at times.

What is going with the member in the orange shirt (Steve Boone)? He's got that look every time the camera zooms on him of "I'm not supposed to be here and yet I am on national TV".

Second video of the Spoonful I've seen today from Sullivan. Always good to see John, Joe, Zally, and Steve Boone.

He gargles on the record for real. Me, I always wanted to hear what the solo sounded like. I was not disappointed. I guess Zally wanted to gargle the solo instead of playing it on guitar and nobody told him no. A wonderful funky subtle player in the world full of Claptons, Becks, and Hendrixes always the right fills, licks, and hooky riffs. I wish he didn't walk away from it all because it would have been interesting as hell to hear how he'd develop.
