Written by Ken Gold and Michael Denne and produced by Ken Gold [who has written hit songs for many others too]. The Real Thing are from Liverpool, UK. Great band. Great song. Saw them live when this was in the charts. Great live act too.
Love everything about this. Fabulous bassline, drums totally appropriate for the song, great guitar parts (low in the mix, so you may have to stretch your ears), nice string arrangement, and keyboard hooks. Great singing and wonderful backing vocals. Apparently The Real Thing wanted a funkier approach but this more pop-disco feel fit what was the market was at the time and gave them a hit. Lyrically it's a "Silly Love Song" but so are most pop songs and it's well crafted within that genre.
