Is the new a6400 really worth it for the money? Is it truly better than the older a6300 and a6500? In this video, we go to Hawaii with some other YouTubers to try to answer those questions as well as some of my own.

Let us know what you think of the new Sony a6400 in the comments below!

I still use this camera 3 yrs later and I still love it as much as when it first came out! Btw, this is one of the best reviews I’ve seen for the A6400. Great job!

Bought the a6400 and currently on vacation with it. Use it mostly for photos and sometimes video on a tripod. Autofocus is insanely good. 400 photos and 10min 4k video took 50% battery. I love it! For my vlog needs i stick to my gopro hero 7. Fully agree with your review.

You guys are actually doing what others refer to as "killing it"

Dude you are so funny. I love this current batch of camera reviewers coming up. You, Kasey (sp?), and Gerald all have great info with great info and humor. I love it.

Now if you'll excuse me...I have to go take a selfie.

why are people complaining about rolling shutter? its literally a click-of-a-button fix on final cut pro ... lol.

I am seriously considering getting this Camera for its super fast and rock solid Autofocus that will be a huge improvement and could have many uses where my main camera (Panasonic GH5) falls short. But the rolling shutter is really bad and handheld it looks really shakey even with lenses with OSS. Now I do own a bunch of gimbals in various sizes so I'm thinking, after watching most of the main vlogger's footage, that this Camera would be awesome but ONLY IF YOU PUT IT ON A GIMBAL. Most of the straight handheld footage looked pretty shaky and jello-like and that was probably the best footage that the vloggers could edit together. I'm sure the worst footage was left on the editing room floor. All the main Vloggers that were paid by Sony (hotels and food and activities) and were probably afraid to be too critical on the camera's issues (flip up screen blocked by the shotgun mic, No IBIS, Bad rolling shutter). I get that. You are flown all the way across the country by Sony and wined and dined. Subconsciously you really want to like the camera. Not having IBIS is not a deal breaker if you plan to regularly use it on a smaller gimbal. But it kept being touted as the perfect camera for someone just getting into Youtube or Vlogging. Sure in a pinch this could be a new vlogger's only camera. But expect shakey, jello-like footage. For someone like me that has gimbals, the Autofocus may be a good enough reason to buy BUT if this is someone's only camera they have to factor in the extra cost of a lot of extra stuff they will need to buy to put out decent content. The vloggers that were given this camera to test kept saying. "It is only $900!" which is not really true. Yes, it is $900 but with no lenses and no way to stabilize it and no way to get good audio in outdoor (breezy) conditions. The OSS of all the Sony lenses used in the various footage did not do a good job smoothing handheld footage IMO. Unless you only shoot indoors, a Shotgun mic (with a dead cat) and a bracket to move the shotgun mic to the side is a must. Add Lenses, Shotgun Mic, brackets to move the Mic and a gimbal to stop the footage from looking like shakey Jello and now your $900 camera is $2, 000+ easy. So not such a screaming deal for a new vlogger. A new vlogger could just use their existing iPhone (stabilized 4K footage) with a Rode Micro Me L shotgun mic and get smoother footage and good audio.

Nice review, nice camera . But which camera did you use to shoot this video ? It seems to be out of focus very often. If it a6400 I'm a little bit disapointed

What mic do you use on the camera? Because for now I’ve only heard people complaining that the flip up screen is annoying for the mic, but yours is on the side

Great fun and informative video guys. I need to know (without reading 149 other comments), did you use the A6400 in the Hummer ? If so it looked very stable. Were you using a gimbal OR did you use a lens with OSS? - It looked very stable on such a wild Hummer ride on a twisty mountain road. Peter.

How does IBIS fix rolling shutter? For what I know rolling shutter is due to sensor read out speed, right?

Dave when you say the AF stays locked in 120fps if you touch focus do you mean it stays on the same focal plane. Is there a way for it to tack a subject or object.

But does the stability matter if you have it in a desk or something and use it to film yourself?

The Sony A6400 really, really rocks. I use it for Wildlife on an adapted (via Sigma MC-11) Canon 400mm 2.8 III. The Autofocus (acquisition, tracking) is top notch, it's amazingly fast, not just for an adapted lens, it's super fast in general even compared to native solutions. Wow. Well done, Sony. Well done!
