Flac vs Mp3 | See the difference

I have read lot about how "Flac" is the next best thing and Mp3's are the worst when it comes to audio quality.

I tried to explain my best to what happens to the files when you convert from one format to another.

Hopefully this helps all casual audiophiles to visually see the differences.

Thanks for watching.

We have all read about how "Flac" format is the next best thing and how "Mp3" are the worst when it comes to audio quality.

I tried to explain my best to what happens to the files and the data when you convert from one format to another.
Hopefully this helps all casual audiophiles to visually see the differences between the file formats.

Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the video man, undoubtedly the best explanation so far about the difference.
We need more explanations of this clarity level about literally everything.

Thank you for visually showing the difference, best I've found so far. Exactly what I was trying to find. It really cleared up my inner conflict wether I should buy my music in cheaper high bitrate lossy or more expensive flac. Much appreciated, thank your for taking the time and effort.

Great video. Well explained, like the graphs all together... and glad you showed the wav to mp3 converter and then the mp3 into a wav format to show the losses. I thought i understood it correctly, but the visual just helps me understand it much better. Thank You.

I honestly could not hear any difference between mp3 192kps vs CD! That's good cuz Audiophile is a crazy hobby! I'm content listening to my vintage receivers on vintage speakers!

A very good explanation and demo, but it goes a bit further. Flac and Wav are the same as Flac compresses without lossy compression. A bit like how a zip or rar file loses nothing. An MP3 as you pointed out trims the high end. A 320 goes up to 20khz. No human can hear that high unless you are a new born baby. A typical 30 year old human will hear up to 16KHz so you will not miss the highs. MP3s are lossy. They delete sounds that you would not hear for example if a cymbal is hit it will mask lower sounds played around the same time. So it will bin those sounds. It sounds drastic but that is how we hear stuff. That is why an MP3 can be so small and sound identical to the original. The best bet for MP3 is to use a variable bit rate. You get the highest fidelity for the smallest sound file.

I've above average hearing sensitivity, I've sat down with high end monitor class earbuds, early hours of the morning in my quiet suburb where you can literally hear the blood pumping in your ears when you hold your breath... The difference between a quality MP3 320kbps rip and a FLAC rip of dramatically higher sample rate is not noticable in any typical listening scenario, even with high-end hardware. Unless you intend to listen to music in near silence, with studio monitors, even someone with excellent hearing would struggle to notice a difference in a double blind test on decent equipment... I'm not saying it's not worth it for those that care, I'm just saying it's like the difference between watching a film mastered in 4k on a 50" display, but standing 1.5m vs 2m from the screen. There is a difference, but under reasonable circumstance, it doesn't make a noticable difference
