Since 1986, Emerson College, which is based in Boston, Massachusetts, has offered a semester-long program in Los Angeles built around professional internships that was housed in rented space in Burbank. In 2008, the College purchased a vacant lot in Hollywood, at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gordon Street, and began plans to expand the program by creating a permanent home. Designed by internationally renowned architect Thom Mayne of Morphosis Architects, construction on the building began on the 10-story, approximately 107,000-square-foot facility in early 2012. In January 2014, students moved into the new facility and were the first to experience the LA-based program in the new Emerson College Los Angeles. The facility houses up to 200 students. It has won dozens of architecture awards and been named one of the 100 Stunning Architectural Gems of LA by Los Angeles Magazine. Hear from Thom Mayne and Aaron Ragan, project architect at Morphosis, as they take you through the design and construction of Emerson College Los Angeles with special footage and archival sketches of the building.

👏What an incredible thought-through approach. Progressive, aesthetic, and functional. As an Emerson LA parent, I couldn't be more proud!
