Many experts believe space will play an increasingly vital role in 21st-century communications, exploration, geopolitics -- and even military preparation. China, one of the world's major space powers, will play an important role, and Xi Jinping looks set to remain in power for the foreseeable future. What are Xi Jinping's space ambitions for China leading up to the major anniversary of 2049? Independent space researcher Dr. Namrata Goswami says China has "very clearly articulated the important need to become a dominant player in space." She explains some of China's major achievements in space to date, and its future goals for Mars exploration and space-based solar power.
