Focus in Golf - Golf lesson and golf tips on how important it is to focus on every hole while you are playing golf and what can be done to make sure you don’t lose focus along the way.

► Golf Focus Tips - Video Golf Lesson Summary

Amateur golfers usually go around their rounds with 2 stretch of holes, a good 9 holes and a bad 9 holes. Sometimes it’s in the front 9 they are performing better or sometime it’s in the back 9. For some reason, the turn in the middle has an effect on scores as you are comparing your scorecard against your handicap or against your playing partners.

I would encourage you to break down your scorecards into 3 hole sections so that you have 6 mini-rounds in total and not only 2 as you normally would have. Try to set yourself some objectives on where you would want your shot total to be for each mini-sections. This is especially useful when you are playing a course that you play often and know well. You’ll be able to set yourself some real and attainable objectives, especially if groups of 3 holes might be more difficult than others. Try to set your objectives so that if you succeed in every one of your mini-rounds you would shoot 4 shots under your handicap overall.

If you achieve your target on a mini-round, great continue on. If you fail to achieve your target on a mini-round, don’t sweat it and move on to the next mini-round, trying to view that new group of 3 holes as a new round entirely.

This technique should help in preventing these long good 9 holes, bad 9 holes stretches that we mentioned earlier. And it will make you focus on each hole much more, which should help improve your scores.

I used your advice Saturday. I beat my course handicap by 2 shots. I had fun as well playing these little mini rounds. Thanks, Scott

Fantastic summary of the mental game of golf . I am a player that mostly have a bad front 9, then play a good back 9 but the damage has been done on the front 9
I do get a bit nervous and panic on the front 9 if things are not going to plan .

That is actually a good idea, and practical. I don't have to sit on the first tee with my legs crossed and meditate, before my first shot..

I play my best rounds when i dont sweat the score, i still want a low score and give every shot my full attention but i dont let numbers get in the way .
You will hit bad shots thats a given - sometimes a few in a row but if you keep playing every shot as it should be played and within sensible expectations you will catch the lucky breaks, you will enjoy your time and your overall scores will fall off naturally . The added bonus is your weaknesses and strengths will become more apparent as you can analyse better when your chilled and not trying to pull off shots that you have no real faith in .
Good analysis leads to better spent practice - leads to better skill - leads to better chill .
Basically be there so as to be ready for the great and well thought out shots when they come and accept the bad ones for what they are - an inevitable by product of the learning process .
And bloody well smile 😉 your doing it, dont miss it .

I’ll give it a try: it’s three rounds in a row that I’ve wasted great scores in the last 3 holes, finally just playing my hcp when I could have easily played 3 to 5 under...

Just RELAX, play well by being prepared and focus on each shot.
