In concept, the skin is one of the best. Unit Xerath is a human soul bound to a machine

It was one of his launch skin and it was called Lockdown Xerath at the time. So it's only natural that a skin that got retroactively placed in the Battlecast universe wouldn't exactly... fit.

I know this because YouTube recently recommended Xerath's champion spotlight (as it sometimes does).

It's literally just pieces of a robot armor floating around a humanoid red light.

It would be interesting to see this skin redesigned as a monstrous machine surrounded by energy rather than made from energy with bits of metal strapped on, perhaps with detached segments held together by electric tethers (Purifier archons in sc2 for example are a machine body rather than an energy body)

Alright so I started guessing on which skins skyen would pick as his best/worst ones and decided to keep a tally in the comment section. My vote this time was on runeborn Xerath because it's basically a recolor so I got it wrong (it was basically a 50/50 chance of that one or battlecast to me anyway so im not to bummed out about this).

Next guess:all of Xayah's (and Rakans they can't be seperated RIOT!) skins range from pretty good to amazing but I'm gonna have to choose one. so let me explain why I chose star guardian

esports skins are pretty basic. Looks good but it has no real concept (no ssg Xayah)
It feels wrong to have a Xayah skin without Rakan (no phoenixmancer Xayah even though the sin by itself is still great)
Sweethearts is expected and good looking but it's also kinda expected and lacks the flair of the last 3.

Elderwood Xayah is a bit to brightly coloured for me even though it kinda makes sense for the lore of the skin (the two couldn't care less for the darkness of the outside world because they are consumed in each others love) it still feels weird for Xayah to be brighter than Rakan without the point of the sin being a role reversal between the two (still amazing skin though).

So that leaves cosmic dust and star guardians. I honestly do adore both skins but the story that star guardians Xayah and Rakan tell gives it the tiniest edge over cosmic dust.
Xayah and Rakan both being corrupted into evil.With Rakan holding onto his goodness and wishing to save Xayah while risking forever losing himself to the darkness forever while Xayah is seemingly fully corrupted and alright with being evil while slowly starting to have some doubts is an amazing way to utilize their characters.

The fact that this is even visualized into their character designs is even more amazing. Their capes you see are split into two colours, dark purple (seen on star guardian Zoe, representing her influence) and bright green (sometimes seen on star guardian neeko which represents the way they used to be) and if you transplant their bird motif from their base skin (with their capes literally being their feathers) you'll realize that the ''feathers'' at the start of the cape would be the new ones growing in while the ones at the end will eventually fall off.
So Rakan who is trying to hold onto and will inevitably lose his humanity has purple ''feathers'' at the start of his cape and bright green ones at the end while Xayah, who is slowly rediscovering her humanity, has bright green feathers at the star and crucially very end of her cape with the middle section being all purple.

I like the red visual effects on abilities but yeah he looks kinda goofy but i think that kinda Xerath's base model's problem, he doesnt look intimidating at all.

This was released back before the battle cast “skin line” was even conceptualized. They used to do one-off skins a lot more often back in the day. I kinda miss that; not every theme has to have a group-association.

I mean i dunno, this skin is a value deal for me. One of the cheapest skins in the game, and xeraths abilities look mad cool in red.

But the Xerath skin was created way before Viktor came and had its own name before being called Battlecast. Kind of similar to Hextech Sion before the Hextech skin line.

It's hard to lock a spark in a machine. I guess Rotom from Pokemon is a gold example? Replace the chains with a faradayic cage or something?

It would be interesting to see this as more of an endoskeleton pieces together by viktors own making, with effects similar to the hextech skins color coded to red and maybe some mechanical leveraging system to act as his movement at his feet. A wheel would work but I feel it would look goofy

The skin art looks like steampunk electricity monster. The player model looks like a homemade bionicle

Honestly this just makes me wonder how Xerath and Viktor would react to each other in-canon. Viktor’s all about “replacing fragile flesh with metal” while Xerath said “fuck having a physical body at all, pure energy ftw.”
