If you're wanting to get the distinct count of unique items within a cell range or table column in Microsoft Excel, this video will help you out.

Essentially we use two funcitons to get distinct count. UNIQUE helps us get an array, or list, of the unique values within our selected range or column.

COUNTA helps us count the items returned by using UNIQUE.

Used together, we can get the distinct count of unique values for any cell range or column in Excel by using =COUNTA(UNIQUE([ColumnName])). Be sure to watch all of the video to learn how this can vary based on where you are placing the formula, and the data from which you're wanting to derive a distinct count value.

Great video! Now what do we need to do in order to get a 2-column table that has the 4 unique projects in one column and the total cost per project in the second column? Thanks!

Now, if that only worked with filtered data. But no, always returns unique for entire dataset
