Dynamic DNS isn't just for remote access. It's incase your ISP changes your IP address on you. DDNS will keep your VPN config updated with your WAN IP info.

Nice to see a new video and a good one at that. I have a GL-inet mobile router I have used once net to reset the device and play around with it again. Been like 2 years since I touched it.

I just bought two of these. I’m going to try backing up my Synology NAS to a second Synology NAS located at my office over a Wireguard VPN. Thanks for the inspiration! 😊

Hell yes! I knew something like this was possible with OpenWRT hardware but I would be MORE than happy to have a plug-n-play option...had been wanting to use my folks' place as an off-site backup, and a pair of these would make that config 10x easier 👍

I've got an older version of this that I use as a travel router. It's limited to 100Mbit ethernet and realistically you're getting 40-70Mbit on Wi-Fi but it's great for when I want a personal Wi-Fi AP when traveling. If it's just about connecting to your home network I'd argue tailscale is the best solution for 95% of people.

Not coming with an integrated switch can be considered a good thing for some of us. My current router, a consumer POS, only has the common 4 LAN ports, so I added an 8 port gigabit switch and have everything plugged into it. I figured having PCs connecting to the NAS on the same switch was better than sending anything through one wire to the router. My Brume2 is ordered and comming soon. It will be a simple swap.

Love me some GL.inet, I use their travel routers. So versatile for the money. Awaiting their FLINT2 release this year.

I use Mikrotik and their hAP AC2 is 79 USD that supports multiple VPN protocols such as SSTP, IPSec (L2TP, IKEv1, IKEv2, OVPN, WireGuard and ZeroTier) plus 5 LAN/ WAN Ports, Wifi, Dynamic routing protocols and such much more!! There are cheaper models but you will compromise performance

3:08 The device has only a few ports because it is designed as a travel router; it needs to be small enough to fit in limited luggage space or in your pocket while traveling. To increase the number of ports, you can use another network device, such as a switch, which can be compact yet offer more ports. However, be aware that this device, and others in its class, typically have less powerful hardware, resulting in slower speeds. For example, the comparable Mango GL-MT300N-V2 won't exceed speeds of around 60 Mbit/s.

Wow what a great video, thank you! I have a question regarding the VPN: I would like to set up a HTTP Proxy and connect it to a VPN. I read that it’s possible with the gl.inet but I would like to have different IP addresses for different phones connected to the router.

My questions are:
1) will it be possible to switch the IPs without a big hustle in-between connecting the phones?
2) do you think social media platforms like TikTok should be able to detect that it’s a VPN or will it be safe since the VPN isn’t on the actual mobile device but on a router?
I hope you can share your thoughts on these-would appreciate it a lot 🙏🙏

Did you run this for a while (weeks/months)? Long term thoughts?

I wouldn't really call it smallest. Although it definitely doesn't have most amazing specs and hardware acceleration, Mikrotik mAP lite is tiny, even compared to Brume2. Beside the microUSB it also takes in PoE in (11-57V), and for those of need to remote access or a WiFi access point it can be a really interesting solution

Can split tunnelling be done on the brume? I don’t want to route all my traffic via the Wireguard!

Sorry I am lost. How do you use Wi-Fi on the Brume? If I want to use this as my main router or subrouter at home and travel with a Beryl AX, what would the set up look like? How do I get the Beryl AX as a VPN client to connect to my home network via Brume?
