Hurricane Ian First Responders Suffer with Strong Solar Storming | Space Weather News 10.01.2022

This Space Weather News forecast sponsored in part by Millersville University:
With Hurricane Ian impacting Florida this week, we really needed the Sun to stay quiet, but no such luck. We have some incoming fast solar wind along with a grazing passage of a solar storm that together could bump us up to G2-levels (possibly G3-levels/Kp7 at high latitudes) over the next few days. This means amateur radio operators should expect communication disruptions on Earth's nightside over this next week. Along with radio blackouts on Earth's dayside due to several big-flare players, this week could be challenging for the Hurricane Watch Nets. On the bright side, aurora photographers should enjoy some beautiful aurora shows deep into mid-latitudes clear through October 3. Learn the details of the coming fast solar wind and glancing solar storm blow, discover why this could give us some strong storming possibilities, and see what else our Sun has in store this week.

I work in disaster relief services and since finding your channel I make sure I am up to date on the space weather forecasts. The forecast is thorough accurate and easy to understand. Possibly one of the best channels I watch.

Your space weather forecasts are intriguing and useful. I especially like the views of the sun, showing what is happening on different sides of the sun, rotating in.

Hi Tammy, I was thinking it would be cool if you did a episode with some interviews with some of these GPS users and radio operators and photographer's telling there story's about how it effects them, And maybe some footage of the difference in the equipment before and when a storm hits, And if you had the time and resources to do it, And I might be the only subscriber that would like you to do something like that, And you may have done one already not sure, Sorry for the bad grammar

Thanks for the timely forecast. I have been a fanatical shortwave broadcast listener for decades and place a high value on your solar weather forecasts. You have given me a valuable forecast of what to expect from SW propagation during the next five days. Keep up the great work!

Yep, I survived another one, Surviving hurricanes have taught me one important lesson and that is how to enjoy warm beer,
The secret to drinking warm beer is discovering what beer is drinkable both cold and warm, So after years of research and multiple hurricanes I have found that perfect beer... Yeungling !
Your Welcome 🤗

Tnx a lot Amita! Again great info so it seems that I will not do HF contest due to noise levels, but VHF Bouncing signals of Aurora ovals seems more likely ;) Watching my magnetomerer.

Dr Tam, your gift of understanding, yesterday was passed to a delivery lad, 'moving up to Fleet Management'...You And I introduced him to an unknown variable he needed to be able to factored in as a manager (very big international company). I think he got IT? I explained solar cycles in 2 min, next fews going to be a bitch and delivery truck hell if they don't know how to get to where your going. They are tracked. He laughed and said "get out the paper maps". Then I said just think if even electrical power is lost...he went on his way.... Your Seed planted. Oxoxo

It's a beautiful moon out there tonight. You really provide great information, It would be nice if I understood it better. Be sure to calibrate your magnetometer often."

Let's say hypothetically we get a huge solar flare that fries basically all of the satellites in orbit. What sort of backup, communications and data systems do we have to keep society functioning?

It seems like something is missing from your video. I'm just curious what that giant blue flash behind you was it looked kind of like a filament but I couldn't make it out. That's what seems to be missing. Your the best either way. Solar weather is a very interesting topic to me would love to learn more keep up the good work
