5 Minutes on Tech: the Best of CES 2018

Lisa Gade covers some of the most interesting and exciting new laptop and smartphone announcements and new releases from the 2018 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas. There are refreshes and new laptops and 2-in-1 notebooks from Dell, Lenovo, HP and Asus and some smartphone news too.

There seems to be some confusion about these new AMD/Intel graphics options. There's two models that have been announced; the GL and GH. GL is the one in the XPS 15 2in1 and Spectre 360 and is a 65 watt option that is similar to a 1050 or 1050 ti. The one that is near the 1060 is the GH and is a 100 watt option that is an option in the Nuc mini desktop.

In other words, this spectre won't be getting 1060 level graphics. It'll be getting around 1050 to 1050 ti graphics. Still awesome though.

I never got the complaints about the XPS look needed a refresh, nobody is complaining about Macs. The XPS looks en looked great!

Yes, you’re correct. The Dell/Gore fabric is used to insulate hot parts under the keyboard and palm rest area, to keep heat away from peoples fingers, then let the fans draw the hot air out. The gore won’t cool, it’ll just insulate.

I’m going to stay away from usb c only devices for now... I rely so much on usb a still (and probably will for a while) so thanks for showing that about the XPS. I was tempted until that.

Isn't it annoying when you're really excited about a particular item and then you find out a much better one will be released in a few months and you find yourself asking yourself if you have the patience to wait? That's how I feel about the HP Spectre x360 15'' right about now. I was getting excited to buy it next paycheck and then I found out about the new one which will be released in March.
