The 3D effect is only part of why it's so impressive. You'll still probably be impressed because of the way the image wraps (so it appears all around you) and by the accuracy and speed of the head tracking. In your situation you might suffer more from a lower resolution, because you don't have two images merging to make up for the low resolution, but the final production version should have a high enough resolution that it doesn't matter too much. Could you hook up the Omni treadmill with the Rift's motion sensors/compase to sense which direction you are facing so then when you start to walk it knows which direction you should be walking

i wouldn't worry too much. the tracking still works and your sight will be as you would normally see. there is a very minor seperation.

They say that they are getting better displays, better even than 1080p it can only get better from the work everyone does, and the effort that the devs and fans put into making the Oculus Rift the next step in the evolution of the gaming industry.

will it not be simpler to use a control pad just to move around? rather than a treadmill that may take half the room as most people don't have big homes

This is, as they say in the vid, not suitable for a normal guys room, but this would be an amazing gaming experience. I think this would be perfect for places where they have arcade games and such. It would be like going to a paintball arena, you book it and it's all yours.

No, there are different images in each eye to simulate your eyes seeing from slightly different angles, thats what makes it look 3D.
But since im betting reality is completely different than a monitor even if you only see it with one eye, it would probably still be a good experinece. Im sure that when it'll be close to commercial launch it'll be possible to try it out at various places.

To be honest I rather use the thumbstick on the controller for walking rather than walking on the spot.plus you will still need the controler for shoot etc anyway

Forza 5 would be awesome with it. I got a racing wheel setup with a gameseat and I always use the bumper camera. With the Rift the wheel and hands in cockpit viele suddenly make sense...

I suppose you could use it with a 360 degree music video. It would be awesome to be able to move your head and look around a music video.

The 3d effect is also more realistic than the conventional used nowadays. It simulates a realist distance of your surrounding and the objects around you. So it looks as if you're inside the game.

try it for a while...anything drastically new like that would be annoying after a few seconds...but try walking around with a eye patch over your non dominant eye(which is your left if youre right side dom)...and youll see what i mean...it isnt sad...just different...if i ever got vision in my left eye like i do my right...it would probably drive me nuts and probably give me headaches so i would most likely go the eye patch route...that is my challenge to you...do you accept???

i really want to use this...but im worried about wasting my money because im blind in my left eye...so is it the same image in both lenses???

I'd defiantly pick it up, being an avid eve online fan, eVR would defiantly be my choice pick for a game.

Yes i would get one.. Zombie games like left 4 dead 3 would be amazing.
I own a 3ds and some 3d games are amazing where they transfer objects from screen to screen.
