Phalaenopsis Tzu Chiang Balm - The small fragrant orchid

The Phalaenopsis Tzu Chiang Balm is a renowned hybrid, not necessarily for its appearance, but for its fragrance. It produces tiny flowers on a pretty long, branching flower spike, that have a citrusy, slightly fruity and sweet fragrance. The color of the flowers can vary, from a washed peach, brown to a more intense peach pink.

The parents of this orchid are Phalaenopsis An Tai Jade and Phalaenopsis Stone Dance, making this a complex hybrid.

The foliage of this orchid is nothing out of the ordinary, pretty big leaf span and a slight resemblance with a species Phalaenopsis rather than the usual complex hybrids. The leaves tend to lean down and are pretty flimsy and thin. They present a slight gloss to them which can make them more appealing.

Overall I purchased this one for its fragrance which is really to my liking, since it has a sweet fruity quality to it. It seems to smell more powerful in the morning hours until noon and is overall a pretty healthy and good looking orchid. Enjoy!

Since I'm a Phal lover I love this one! It reminds me of Japanese cherry blossom flowers. The colors are so pretty, and it looks like a little tree with all the small branches. Lucky boyfriend! :)

I like the new intro music! Congrats on your new purchase, its very pretty. Love the orange shimmery color! I like Phals, but I'm new to orchids, so I haven't gotten bored w/ any flowers. It's very difficult to find anything but mass produced phalaenopsis in my area, which is okay, since they drew me into this new hobby, but I would really like to find a species that's fragrant. I love your channel & I've learned tons of information from you, which has come in very handy because I've located a garden center that does carry other generas of orchids, but some are pretty neglected. I've been able to clean up these poor orchids, disinfect them, cut off mushy rotted roots & repot them based on your information. A few were so bad they had little to no roots left but they're rebuilding & thriving, which is very exciting! Thank you for passing on all your knowledge to someone clear across the world. :)

Thank you so much for your helpful videos! I bought a fragrant mini phal today, but it's not a tzu chiang balm. It looks like a generic mini phal: It's yellow with bright magenta veining, and has a mild smell of honeysuckle. I'm assuming it will have the same needs as any other phal, but I wanted to hear your take on fragrant phals. Are they common? Is it some kind of hybridization that causes the fragrance?

That's a lovely phal.  Your boyfriend is shy..lol   Your said the name pretty good...I am Chinese, originally from Hong Kong, now living in the states.  Sadly I don't remember much of my own language--Cantonese.  I know a little bit of Japanese and French.  Enjoy your holiday and stay safe!!

She is adorable! The flowers look like little ballerinas dancing on the stems. I wanted to ask you, or maybe you have a video already, do you know how phalaenopsis orchids come into mass production? Are they started from seed or from keikeis or divisions? I'm asking because I found one yesterday in a supermarket among the usual white, pink, spotted, and magenta ones that was so pretty and so different. There were a few next to her that looked like they could have been her sisters but they were more of what you would usually see. My question is, is she one of a kind because she came from seed? Or is she one of a variety? I have looked at pictures of speckled phals on Google a bit but have not found anything like her so far. I was reluctant to spend the money but I went ahead and got her because she was so unique and she was a justaddice orchid and I felt certain she would meet an untimely death if I did not buy her and I did not think such a beautiful orchid should be lost to the world.
