I’m not even that old, but as someone who has to always change rooms and mix, you learn to adjust your ears to the room… but I wish they had these back 15 years ago.

Love that quote

SoundID reference for headphones is also immensely helpful in conjunction with CanOpener! Love mixing in headphones

Power to you for using the slate but a detailed set of headphones with corrective eq and a good crosstalk engine for monitoring can do wonders. The value in the GHz Canopener is that it doesn’t model any room. It just does crosstalk based on it being an ideal room. And headphones are not all created equal. Different technology smears and separates in different ways.

I think the problem a lot of the time is there's too many plugins and gadgets papering over the lack of knowledge on mixing (I have been one of these people)

Since I've gone back to basics and doing less, things have been sounding much cleaner.

Correct gain staging and referencing mixes to mono help a lot.

If I can suggest: I’ve got an SPL Phonitor 3 to drive my HEDD headphone for mixing and it has a superior function called matrix which replicate the same function as can opener but with more dynamics and no latency! SPL does great amps! Obviously way more expensive but you can hear an amazing quality from it

I havent mixed anything on speakers for 2 years now, i always mix on headphones because of my circumstance at home and it always comes out fine, reference it in the car and beats pill which is where i listen to music most, and i balance between the 3

I don’t believe someone who brought their headphones and amp with them to an interview. He’s selling something. I bet he mixes in an amazing room

Anyone who isn't kidding themselves as a mixer is listening on every speaker available. Mixing headphones, listening headphones, monitors, car speakers, phone speakers, all of it lol.

No. Just no. The bass response isn't natural in closed back headphones, the hearing fatigue and volume creep is real, and the frequency response curve is generally very dramatic and weird. It should only be used for editing, and double checking after already mixing on your speakers, or in extreme cases like the next time you have to mix Drake inside of Harry Potter's broom closet as your control room. Just because this guy shoe-horned a difficult approach and found a way to make it work for him, doesn't mean that's standard way to do things. Like "yea I won a rally car race driving a Nissan Maxima" it problably speaks more to the talent of the operator than the soundness of the approach. I would count this guy as either "the exception to the rule" or just a flat out misinformant trying to make others worse at mixing to protect his own job.

Does Can Opener have the ability to be ran system wide? it would be nice to listen to references through apple music with Can Opener active throughout the system.
