Accentus Music release on DVD and Blu-ray in April 2014: In Anton Bruckner’s 7th Symphony, the listener encounters a music characterized by great spaciousness and profound solemnity, a music which speaks of grief and lamentation, but also of their transcendence. With its monumental architecture and intensity of sound, the symphony has moved listeners ever since its triumphal premiere in 1884. The Guardian calls Daniel Barenboim’s London interpretation “Tremendous … Barenboim and the Staatskapelle seem to have this work in their systems, and the overall impression was of music unfolding organically at its own pace rather than of a work being self-consciously interpreted or led.”

As a Classical Music radio presenter in Australia, I do not think the tempo is slow, frankly I believe Daniel Barenboim hits the right Goldilocks parallel. There are Maestros as good but few better than Daniel Barenboim and he has been doing it for 60 years

What a great orchestra to conduct. Wagner background.

On January 31, 1943, on national radio, amid the somber playing of excerpts from Anton Bruckner's 7th symphony, the Nazi regime announced to the German people the defeat of the 6th Army at Stalingrad. Amazing.

Scherzo way too slow! But nice performance apart from that...
