Cans vs Tops ❓ Which is better to melt? (Melting Aluminum Experiment)

Показать описание
Cans vs Tops, that is the question. Today I will be comparing the yield of melting 50 cans vs 50 tops. Which one produces the best amount of aluminum compared to the dross. Also we need to take into consideration the amount of time it takes to melt each one. More time, means more fuel, and more money.

Both were added to my furnace that was already at melting temperature.

50 Cans gives give 65% of good aluminum and it took 15-17 minutes

50 Can Tops give 78% of good aluminum and only took 2 minutes

Extruded aluminum is the best to do in my opinion. Great video

Unless the cans are free I will never do them again. It's too much expense and hassle. They do work though. Solid work.

Great video. My question is, how long did it take to cut the tops off the 50 cans? You should take into account for that time also. Also, you can remelt the dross and get a little more good aluminum out of it. Good looking bars.

Great video! As long as I don’t get money for the cans, I’ll melt them😏. But it takes a lot of time😔. Keep up the good work buddy!!👍🏻

Excellent vid as always my friend! I gotta admit, I was surprised at how much dross there was on both the tops and the cans. At least with the dross you can always melt it again to recover a bit more aluminum. Great job!😀🔥🔥🔥

I'm gonna tell ya upfront, that the bottom of any can is where the most aluminum is at. That's the thickest part of thee entire can. Also, some cans have plastic wrap on them cut that shit off and BAM more aluminum.

Gonna like and subscribe, because I love watching aluminum meltdowns! Especially cans, tabs, tops, bottoms, whatever. 😁😁😁💙💙💙🙌🙌🙌💜💜💜🤙🤙🤙

Someone had a little too much fun knocking the cans off the table. XD Kinda surprised there was so much dross on the tops. I'm guessing there's a bit of plastic liner on the underside, just like the rest of the can.

Ok, this leads me to my only real question when it comes to aluminum...not that I would recycle a nice aluminum pour.
Is there an advantage to recycling melted aluminum over just recycling the cans as far as getting some cash? Or would it just be a matter of the melted being much more compact?

I live in a place where that was $10 in cans..
But by your metrics, it is 12 full cans to equal those 50 tops.. can you stack 12 crushed cans in that crucible? If so it would be mostly a wash as they probably melt the same speed.
Can you crush 12 cans faster than cutting 50 tops and bottoms?

Nice one. Dross sucks for sure. Cans are 10 cent here so I never melt them. that would be $5 a pound of ali. I suppose I probably could take the tops and still get the deposit back maybe lol.

Cans are a really bad source of aluminum if your country has some sort of recycling system where you get money for cans. There's just too much slag that if you have any other way of getting aluminum cans are just a ton of hassle, I think in countries where they buy back the used cans you can buy more Al with the money you get from handing them in than what you extract from them yourself. A very similar story to lead from car batteries

On the other hand I was expecting a bit less slag from just the tops, sure they have plastic lining but they don't have the paint
