The origin of his name was actually meant to reflect how meat was left outside a temple for Beelzebul which attracted lots of flies so Beelzebul was slightly changed to Beelzebub to call them the lord of the flies. That's where Beelzebub came from. Outside of the apocrypha he isn't referenced as an actual being I don't believe, just as an insult to the Philistine god, Beelzebul.
