Math Activity for the First Day of School

Here is one of my favorite exercises to do with students when I first meet them at the beginning of the year. It gets them thinking and sets the tone for what math class is all about. Try it out yourself; it only takes a couple minutes. Grab a piece of paper and something to write with... and hit play!
