A chance to relive the exciting moment from June 2022 when we unveiled a statue of Renanissance Polish Poet and Shakespeare contemporary Jan Kochanowski in the sculpture garden at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage in Stratford-upon-Avon in partnership with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

The unveiling coincided with a highly successful and fun weekend of events as part of our ShakesPEERS: Celebrating Jan Kochanowski and Poetry project which included an outdoor Tudor music concert, miniature bust-making, creative writing workshops and badge making workshops and other specially curated activities at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage gardens.

Visitors also had a chance to expierience a journey through time as part of a ‘Grand Tour’ entitled „Through the Poetry of the Renaissance Period” where they could listen to the poetry of Kochanowski's contemporaries: Shakespeare , Petrarch, de Camões and Ronsard.

In the evening at The Guild Chapel, specially curated events included a lecture by Professor Charles Kraszewski entitled: "Jan Kochanowski: Poland's Shakespeare...and Marlowe, and Johnson, and Donne...", a performance of Kochanowski's 'Laments' directed by Jason Morell and a Renaissance music concert.
