It can be done without removing the console, but not without modifying the console to access the shifter boot bolts. We light to keep it clean, and do it right!

I don't know if my shifter is one of yours but it's a short throw and it doesn't return to the third gear position like you push it side to side in neutral and it stays where you stop. what do I need to do to fix this

If the trans is still stock, its a T5. T45 was introduced in 1996. Google search WHAT MANUAL TRANSMISSION IS IN MY MUSTANG?

Sounds like the internal spring mechanism that returns the shifter to center was worn out. It is time to replace your shifter.

No sir! You do need to remove your center console and lower shifter boot, but the seats and carpet do not need to be removed.

And how can you know the difference for if you have a T5 or T45 transmission? I just bought a 1990, 5.0, 5-speed hatch and it's all new to me.

Sorry this will not fit unless you upgrade to one of the later model T5 Transmissions.

No just fits T5/T45 Transmissions found in 83-04 Mustangs.
