What if General Winfield Scott had defeated democrat Franklin Pierce in the 1852 presidential election? Could Scott have averted the Civil War by preventing the repealing of the Missouri Compromise via the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and avert Bleeding Kansas? Honestly I think the civil war was inevitable at some point. Even if slavery were removed (it really was the main reason in our timeline), the national differences between the North and the South would always lead to conflict.

Considering the periods deals and compromises I feel the south would be given something else instead, the question for me is what? promises to expand into Mexico? token purchases of Caribbean colonies? Constitutional Guarantees not to ever remove Slavery at the federal level? or some other kind of concession?

Now I’m wondering what if former wrestler Jesse Ventura became president. He served as Minnesota’s governor from 1999-2003 under the Reform Party. He had said at the time he wouldn’t run, but just wondering. Also after he had been elected governor Hulk Hogan pulled a publicity stunt saying he would run for President.
