We were just eating sunflower seeds and my son asked how they were made. Out of all the videos listed I picked yours. We loved it! My 5 year old boy said, “Wow, can we go meet this family?!” 😆

Great first point, all the personal protection equipment works when you wear it. One trip to the ER can consume any profit from your harvest. Boots, gloves, long sleeves, glasses, hats. and fantastic food.

We grow Mammoth Sunflowers (grey stripe) in southwest Ohio. They look great along the fence line. Started with 2 packets last year and those 50 gave me enough seeds to feed the chickens thru the winter and plant again this year. This year's seeds are going to be next years photo field. We have a few that were all black heads, a couple that look all white but most are still the grey stripe.

First off, your voice is tranquil. Second, thank you for sharing this video. I really enjoyed even though I have never given too much thought toward the process of harvesting sunflower seeds.

Just wonderful how one seed can get you this many seeds.

We grow Sunflower for both ourselves and small livestock. The Rabbits, Chicken, and Quail all love the seeds. Easiest feed ever. No processing. Just toss 'em a full head and they'll go to town.

Have you thought about leaving the sunflower stalks standing and then plant a climbing fall crop? Peas, beans, cucumbers.. something that will use the stalks to lift their plants off the ground.

We're city folks but my sister LOVED to plant stuff. One year she did sunflowers. I had no idea they grew that tall "naturally". I figured she had put miracle grow on them or something! Lol
