I found another trick. Stay out of the perimeter and let your companion go in and fight. Your companion will not die. It takes time but it gets done.

This boss should not be as difficult as it is also I hate how if you die you get sent back to the start of the section and have to fight your way back to the fight only to die again

Not knowing the droids were suppose to be used as shield, my first attempt I destoryed them all. Then got destroyed by boss.

But it took me all of about 15 minutes. Just let it go, go get something to drink or have a smoke. Come back and it was 90 % done.

This is the one thing about this game I despise...the un-fun boring ass canned boss battles. A colossal waste of time. A half hour of button mashing so I can get past it to get to the real story again.
