Il progetto del docufilm “Medea dalla Cassia a New York” nasce dalla documentazione filmata realizzata da LEAD, nell’arco di un biennio della scuola di teatro integrato “La Magia del teatro” , che Dario D’Ambrosi organizza all’interno dello spazio del Teatro Patologico con ragazzi diversamente abili; L’obiettivo del laboratorio era finalizzato alla messa in scena di un allestimento della Medea di Euripide nel leggendario Teatro Off-Off-Broadway Cafè La MaMa di New York. LEAD ha seguito anche l’organizzazione e la partenza per la trasferta americana della compagnia e, una volta giunti a New York, la vita in comune, le prove e infine la rappresentazione dello spettacolo, con i protagonisti della Magia del Teatro che portano in scena il risultato del lungo percorso laboratoriale, interpretando il coro che fa da contrappunto alla folle tragicità della storia di Medea.
L’intento degli autori del film, Antonio Messia e Donatella Querci, che da anni seguono il lavoro di Dario D’Ambrosi e in particolare la sua attività con le persone diversamente abili , è duplice : da una parte documentare il metodo di lavoro che D’Ambrosi sperimenta con persone affette da disturbi psichici ma anche da handicap fisici, andando a stimolare delle risorse creative ed espressive spesso ignorate o dimenticate e offrendo a ognuno la possibilità di esprimersi nella loro complessità di esseri umani, sia individualmente che in gruppo, attraverso il teatro; dall’altra c’è la voglia di raccontare il percorso umano e artistico che queste persone hanno avuto l’opportunità di compiere: l’esperienza del viaggio fatta insieme ad alcuni dei genitori che li hanno accompagnati, l’impatto con New York e il debutto su un palcoscenico importante come quello del Cafe La MaMa ,calcato nell’arco dei suoi oltre 50 anni di vita dai più grandi attori del teatro americano ed internazionale.
Il documentario segue il binario parallelo della rappresentazione della Medea a La MaMa , alternata con i momenti più significati ed emozionanti vissuti durante le prove a Roma e a New York.
Non mancheranno i momenti informali, di convivialità e di relazione interpersonale tra tutti i partecipanti a quest’avventura, che contraddistinguono la vita di ogni compagnia teatrale.

The project of the documentary film "Medea: from Cassia to New York" starts from the filmed documentation produced by LEAD in the space of a two-years period of the integrated theatre school, "The Magic of the theatre", that Dario D'Ambrosi organizes in side of the space of the Pathological Theatre with disabled children. The object of the workshop aimed at staging a production of the Medea of Euripides in the legendary Off-Off-Broadway Café La MaMa Theatre of New York.
LEAD managed also the organization and the departure for the American trip of the company and, once arrived at New York, life in common, rehearsals and finally the performance of the show, with the protagonists of the Magic of the theatre who stage the result of the long experimental play, performing the chorus in counterpoint to the insane tragedy of Medea’s story.
The intent of the authors of the film, Antonio Messia and Donatella Querci, who have been following the work of Dario D'Ambrosi and in particular his work with disabled people for years, is twofold: on the one hand, to document the working method that D'Ambrosi experiences with people afflicted with mental disorders, but also with physical handicaps, going to stimulate some creative and expressive resources often ignored or forgotten and giving everyone a chance to express themselves in their complexity of human beings, both individually and in groups, through the theatre; on the other, there is the desire to tell the human and artistic path that these people have had the opportunity to fulfill: the experience of the journey made together with some of the parents who accompanied them, the impact on New York and the debut on a stage as important as the Café La MaMa, trodden in the space of its more than 50 years of life by the greatest actors of the American and international theatre.
The documentary looks after the parallel track of the performance of Medea at La MaMa, alternating with the most significant and exciting moments experienced during the rehearsals in Rome and New York. There will also be informal moments of conviviality and interpersonal relationship between all the participants in this adventure, that characterize the life of every theatrical company.
