I just cut the end off about 5mm from the hole then drill all the blockage out and just weld the end back on it and grind it back job done.

A blow torch is ideal for any carbon cleaning job on parts that can admit high temperatures. Used it from sparkplugs, to exhaust pipes or manifolds. On two stroke exhausts is pretty much mandatory. ;-)
