I had a day when I was about 33, I was on the train on my way home from work and the train went through a tunnel and the carriage darkened, allowing me to see my reflection on the opposite window to an almost mirror perfect refection and I really did not like what I was looking at, i mean I was repulsed and ashamed that I slept walked for the last 7 years from a good looking mid 20 something that people said I looked a bit like James Dean into what I can only describe as Hagrid from Harry Potter, after a NIN concert looking back at me, i'd let myself go in the worst way possible, without realising or caring about how I looked until that moment. As soon as I got home i drew up a battle plan started to work out at home, shaved, got a haircut dressed a little better then about a year later, after dropping about 30 pounds I got inspiration on how to dress from another older passenger in his late 40s who wore brown brogues, blue shirt, tweed sports coat and a Steve McQueen style Tag Monaco, i kind of copied that and never really looked back.

I commend James' point about faith. Get faith if you can. For chivalry has always rested on the substrate of a broader moral code (and what is a gentleman if not a modern knight?). With faith you not only add to your understanding of that conduct which distinguishes a gentleman, but you also get the power to persevere in that conduct. Plus you get eternal life, which is good deal. Some of you, in pursuing gentlemanly conduct, are going to become leaders, and therein all the more will your willpower and poise be tested. So man up and bow down to a higher power.

I have been married for 40 years...when I went to my first shower my mum showed me her wedding planner...it was full of different marriage services and traditions...what I found most interesting was the chapter on groom and bride trousseau...I borrowed the planner again when my daughter was married and instead of purchasing for her we purchased for the four year old granddaughter...she wanted for nothing for their first year of marriage...my son in law was very moved by the traditions of our family and understood the powder of what dress can do...look to the 1940's and 50's for this type of help. You are also correct on the European Gentleman...even a cab driver wears a suit to work 😉. Your content is very valuable.
