Into Europe: The European Union has been a growing organisation up until Brexit, and it is still set to grow, with 7 countries currently in the application process.

Despite being the culmination of their democratic dream, their road to join the EU promises to be bumpy with challenges to overcome in terms of rule of law and dealing with the EU's internal politics.

Northern Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, and Bosnia face a difficult road to accession.

'Germany has sought aggressive eastern expansion', what a shocker.

So basically
If Serbia wants to join EU they need to accept Kosovo as independet country?
EU: yes

Small correction: Ex-Yu countries were not technically part of the Eastern Block since Yugoslavia was one of the founders of the Non-Aligment Movement and didn't belong to either Western nor Eastern Block.
Otherwise great video (as always)

De Gaulle was so right about Britain always clinging on their empire status in the club

“France is afraid that Britain would always look to its empire” Slightly ironic considering France’s involvement in its former west african colonies.

You missed Czech Republic and Slovakia in the 2004 enlargement...it’s quite important to mention it, because 10 countries joined at that time.

You should have talked about Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova as well... would have been interesting

I just discovered this channel and I am blown away by the quality despite the subscriber count. It’s amazing. Definitely deserves more !

I would say let's chill about expansion for a while (whilst helping the Balkans develop of course) and focus on integration and democratization of EU institutions for a decade or two.

I think the fear of full Chinese tributary states in the Balkans will speed up the process. I’d say Montenegro, North Macedonia and Albania could join by 2030, they’re all small friendly nations doing big steps towards EU compatibility. I’ve heard people say that Montenegro already is in a Chinese debt trap, but I don’t think that’s irreversible yet. And possibly, independent Scotland could join in the 2030s as an economic counterweight.

Does Hungary satisfy the ‘Copenhagen’ criteria?

Scotland will likely leave the UK then join the EU

I get the point of people saying there shoudn't be more enlargements until further consolidation and I agree. Which also makes me feel lucky since if I am to be objective, my country shoudn't have been accepted, the reforms that were done before 2007 were too surface level and we had a few close calls with the loss of rule of law in the past four years. But also I have to say how good it was we were a member in that fight. I really feel that without membership our path would have gone for the worse. I remember the protests and the encouragements from the rest of the EU comunity and that really made a difference.
So yeah, enlargement right now feels iresponsable, but so does slaming the door in other peoples faces.

Well, we Serbian people can hope we will never be accepted into the EU. But I fear corrupts politicians from Serbia will push us into even more corrupted EU. Still, I believe that we will find strength to oppose those politicians and stay free from western corporal dictatorships. Let God help us Serbs to oppose this misleading path into modern slavery.

There is no Northern Macedonia, the country's name is North Macedonia. For a geopolitics channel this should be very clear to you. And Yugoslavia was not part of the Eastern Block. Great work by the way! Keep up!
