Bursting of a balloon filled with butane gas followed by ignition

Показать описание
A balloon containing butane gas is heated by a flame torch and explodes due to the heat. The process is captured with Schlieren technique in order to see the erupting gases and the ignition of the gas. The balloon bursts quickly and the released gas is seen as a rippled wave pattern. The butane gas is then ignited by the torch from the right side and the propagation of the burning front is seen as smoother wave patterns.

The video is imaged with 1000 frames per second.

Does your illumination allow folks to skip the parabolic mirror with Schlieren? I've seen monochromatic laser attempts that generally work but the image is dominated with diffraction patterns...these all look quite natural.
