I started to watch your shorts on TikTok last year, and you have been so inspirational to me. Thank you so much on providing this roadmap - it has given me a lot of confidence to start building more coding projects. Specifically, the "only doing leetcode after you are able to get interviews" point has really opened my eyes to one of the largest traps I have fallen into - being obsessed only with leetcode. Thanks again bro!

I think you are younger than me but your entire journey is far better. I actually managed to land a full stack node developer job months ago and I used to watch some of your videos. Good job and hats to you brother.

like always, amazing video erik. u went into a lot of raw detail and truth. u couldn't have said it any better. this is exactly what anyone who want to get into the top big tech companies should follow. it's just a process and all one needs to do is put in the work, be smart about how you put in the work, be consistent and trust God.

appreciate you bro.

Thanks for this, Erik. I've been following your IG content since earlier this year and I have to say—your work is absolutely inspiring. I'm gearing up to use my growing C# skills to kick off a coding project of my own, so your videos are exactly the kind of motivation I need. Keep 'em coming!

just a note before saying anything my words doesnt mean your content is bad or something in general its just about this video
how can u say to someone who barely or even learned programming since 1year build a complete full-stack well-rounded project not just that but even more its a startup that people will be using, but i think if someone reached to that level that he is capable of making that then they are already employable, they just didnt have the chance yet, usually thats not the case (ngl i can bet its not the case of 99% of ppl watching this video).
this is fr the most brutal advice i've ever heared on youtube on this topic or i might be just too stupid for it idk

Thanks for sharing your story, Erik as for inspiring many others like me. I’ll come back to this comment after I’ve secured my software engineering role🤞

I completely agree with everything you said, i would do the EXACT same if i was just starting out, but just a quick note that everyone should tweak the tips given in the video to match their targeted market, in terms of :
- technologies ( frameworks, languages, cloud providers.. ), it wouldnt make sense to learn a framework thats barely used in your job market, some research should be done ( you can use linkedin or any other platform for that, or even ask experienced engineers ).
- business logic, what i mean is, if you want to get hired for a swe role where the business is highly related to finance for example, consider doing a project that involves that, will really put you ahead vs other applicants.

I'm tired of having to restart my career after 25 years at junior level offers just because the companies I've worked for ended up disgracefully sucking and not even realizing my full potential. I feel like my career is over and I've been a great senior engineer for 25 years in JavaScript, Visual Basic, C#, TypeScript and Go. Currently Go is still my favorite while I dabble in Rust and Zig but just sucks what they've done to interviewing and the job market in the US.
