I have been looking for this song since it came out. It took me 11 years. ELEVEN YEARS. I just turned 23 a couple weeks ago. It took half my life to find a song about forgetting a song. She literally warned me this would happen

"You're using your headphones to drown out your mind" is like OH GOD, RIGHT IN THE FEELS.

December 2010, 15-year-old me was preparing for a bone marrow transplant as the last step in treatment for acute myeloid leukemia and I stumble across this song on iTunes and I become obsessed with it, listening to it constantly. It just got me "It's like forgetting the words to your favorite song" = being diagnosed with cancer "You're using your headphones to drown out your mind" = dealing with treatment. This song is what I would tell everyone to listen to if they want a taste of what was going on in my head. This summer I was out driving and this song came on, I hadn't listened to it in years, as soon as it started I was sobbing.
I simply cannot describe what this song means to me.

This was the first Regina Spektor song I ever heard, and it still holds a special place in my heart.

I love her so much. That I decided to show all her videos to my 6 year old daughter and introduce her to great woman, with awesome personalities. Well she loved it but when she saw this particular video, first thing she asked was "what is that thing, is it a cash register"

Lol makes me feel old

One of those songs that wherever you are in life, you feel like it was written specifically for you.

I thought this song was my favorite, but i cant remember the words.

The typewriter is her instrument, and so is her piano.

I don't think this song has some esoteric meaning. It's simply about loss; or about having something that's so familiar taken away from you. You're in the dark without it, depressed and awkwardly trying your best to get it back.

"It was so easy and the words so sweet
You can't remember, you try to feel the beat"

This was my favourite song a while ago but I always kept forgetting the words which is fun because of the lyrics haha!

My high school art teacher would play a lot of Dido, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones, Frou Frou and such during class. It was very relaxing.

I knew this would be a good song when she said “It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song” after that I just loved it more and more

EDIT: Welp, it was a myth all along! Haha

ORIGINAL POST: I've always loved this song, but I never knew the significance of the word "eet". All this time I just thought it was a playful sound she uses in the song, but today I found out that it's an actual button on a traditional typewriter (I grew up with an electric one) that allows someone to type over other words in an attempt to fix errors (but not actually erase them).
That just totally blows my mind and I have a better appreciation for the song.

i've always known that the title says 'eet' and has no relation to eating
however, this song accidentally got into my mp3-player when i struggled with anorexia and it made the right thoughts appear in my head
i hope they are right

I always forget that she's a music teacher. That's probably where she gets most of her ideas from her teachings

regina is so artistically creative.  she brings new magic to each of her songs she is a pleasure to watch and listen to.

Even when the world is falling apart, Regina is there, somehow still making sense of it all.

I absolutely adore this song. I had completely forgotten all about it for years, & then on one of my hardest weeks I’ve had all year learning that someone I deeply care about might not have long left to live, it echoed ever so slightly in the background of my mind, & with the help of my older sister, we remembered it from when we were younger & would sing it together on our car rides after we moved out together from our parents house. As soon I heard it play just now, I had to sit down on the ground of my kitchen to sing it with my eyes closed. This song never fails me, it catches me everytime. It’s like my souls bestfriend. I am crying, but I am so incredibly grateful. ❤️‍🩹
