Illustrator - Crop a Photo & Remove the Excess - Bitmap Image Cropping
Since Illustrator CC 2017 it has been possible to crop an image in Illustrator and to actually permanently remove the area outside the crop area. I'll show you how to use this feature and how it works. We'll also look at what it won't do - crop images to something other than a rectangle or square and a workaround for doing this. This video is very quick and informative!

Thanks for this...do you know if Illustrator has added the ability to crop to any shape yet? Such an important ability needed.

If you're here to try and remove the outline created by the clipping mask from your photos, so you don't have all that extra space around them when exporting them. Just Expand Appearance and it will remove it. That's the easy way to crop photos using the clipping mask into any shape you like.
