They've never been to Aldi apparently.

When my friend went to a store that did this I spent the whole time outside returning carts. I made five dollars!

In NJ they have had these since I was a little kid. It was a way for stores to encourage people to return the cart properly, also it would encourage homeless people in the parking lots to return stranded carts for the quarters (as opposed to walking off with them as frequently happens in some stores without them). It’s a win win, I am shocked this is such a new thing to so many

This isn't to stop cart thieves. It's to not have to pay an employee to round up carts every 30 minutes.

we had these but people kept breaking the locks off to steal quatres. Some how people got the idea the locks were full of money.

New in America, used in Europe for decades. Love it, especially for the bums that leave carts all over the place.

So now they will steal them for a quarter. This is stupid

I've met alot of people that are still at least 25 cents worth of lazy.. I dont see how this is any kind of deterrent..

Kinda has instructions printed right on it.

This is stupid and more of a hassle for customers. I got people stealing my cart cos I left it unattended for a few seconds in and out of the store. Plus you got beggars out in the front asking for quarters, and new customers looking at you returning a cart and hoping you are a good Samaritan and give them your cart. Couldn't they just put in a lock mechanism like war-mart where if you pass a certain point, the wheels lock and become unable to push?

Wow, my first time at aldi’s I was mad because I thought I had to pay 25 cents for a cart 😭😂
Thank you for this video 🥴

It’s mostly a European thing. In Australia they have both. Also I thought Aldi/lidl has it and the USA has those chains. I guess not in this town.

Easily bypassed by pressed the inside of the lock open with swiss army knife or any multi tool or flat object.

Customers here will say they don't have money to put in that cart. *face palm
