Cloud: Computation is centralized in a few large data centers. It takes a while for the data to travel back and forth, but it can be very powerful. E.g. Ultra HD CGI rendering that happens in a few datacenters around the world
Edge: Computation occurs as locally as possible. Anywhere from the same device it's needed on, to other devices on the same network, to fairly small and well geographically distributed dataservers. The devices may not be as powerful, but the data can travel back and forth in an incredibly short amount of time. e.g. CCTV cams on the same local network that compress their video inside the camera using a dedicated chip, then send the video to a local computer for storage

Recently, I heard about the term Endpoint Computing, which is what you are referring to as Edge Computing (e.g., iPhone doing face recognition). What would be your take with this new term, and what would Edge Computing be instead? It looks like we have three levels of "computing": On device (endpoint), On edge device (a geographically-close device to which endpoints connect), and On cloud (remote computing, e.g., AWS).
