The real Seymour Skinner

Funny thing is, Armin Tamzarian is still a respected Vietnam veteran. When he goes to inform Agnes about Skinner's death, he's wearing medal ribbons and is a Sargent. He served honorably enough that he was trusted to deliver the news to Agnes. Nothing in this episode really invalidates his Vietnam flashbacks.

Heck, I'd say his story of growing up on the streets, being forced to go to Vietnam, finding a mentor to put him on the right path and then continuing on his legacy after he died is pretty damn inspiring. He's not a fraud. He did go to Vietnam. He did become a principal. And he did a great job at both.

I think this would be a good idea if they hinted throughout the series that Seymour was an imposter. Imagine all that buildup with the odd inconsistencies in Skinner's past resulting in this twist.

One thing i will praise is martin sheen did a decent job as the real skinner, hes always awesome

I think they could easily do a follow-up to this episode explaining that the two Skinners were switched at birth and that "Armin Tamzarian" actually was the real Skinner all along (hey, he looks a LOT more like his mother than the supposed "real" Skinner does).

Who else agrees that the name Principal Skinner fits a whole lot better with the one character we always thought was Skinner than the one who actually “is” Skinner?

I know this episode is so critically hated. But...I prefer this to what they have reduced Skinner to in modern Simpsons.

I didn't like the "real" Skinner and saw him as a disruptive jerk who basically stole Armin/Seymour's life from him so I cheered when he was run out of town on a rail in the end.

As much as I liked portions of this episode, I always felt that it would've been better if Skinner never left Springfield to go back to wherever he came from and the episode instead, focused on him sharing his job with the real Skinner whilst keeping a distant relationship away from his mother, with Bart making things worse for the both of them and the episode ending with the real Skinner being a permanent character.
