After all the hype and years of waiting, Path of Exile 2 is out now, though currently in early access. Once server problems subsided, more players went hands-on with the action RPG and discovered a title that wasn't quite what they expected. Some find it challenging to manage the new mechanics, while others have outright given up.

Path of Exile 2 is a challenging game that will push you to rethink how you've approached the genre till now (even in Path of Exile 1). Getting more slots on Skills to add more Support Gems requires a specific currency or finding higher-level Uncut Gems while playing. Unlocking an Ascendancy relies on completing seemingly optional activities to boost your power.

Then there's the current climate over melee builds, with the Warrior's strongest attack being the default strike or the broken Gas Grenade and Firewall combo for the Ranger/Mercenary. Here are 15 things for those still on the fence about buying, especially after all the mixed responses.

Quick question I just bought path of exile 2 on ps5. Since it’s early access does that mean the game isn’t fully release or are we a year ahead until it’s free to play for everyone late 2025 just kind of confused on what early access means for this game. (New to this game)

The WASD controls along with the dodge mechanic made this game the best arpg experience to me. As a fan of kinetic action games that demand split second decision making for success, this game has managed to be very unique because you’re getting all these in one game:

1.) isometric view that highlights phenomenal atmospheric visuals with striking art design

2.) compelling progression supported by a creative weapon skill socketing system

3.) interesting world design with high variety in enemy design that not only looks varied but require different approaches

4) addictive combat that feels like you’re playing a twin stick shooter rather than the usual arpg.

The addition of a dodge is game changing because this has a ripple effect in how enemies are designed to attack the player. Now, correct timing and fast decision making in discerning geometrical shapes are needed to win in an arpg game. The combat loop is really addictive since you’re not just playing for the extrinsic rewards but engaging with the actual combat itself is the reward.

To me, a surprise GOTY for 2024.

I'm absolutely loving the difficulty of the game as it requires you to use a little brain power to tune your build and gear in a way that has never been required in an arpg on the first playthrough.

it's a TERRIBLE idea to decrease the difficulty.... the answer is to give the player more options to defeat the bosses, not nerf the boss dmg and hp. thats the worst.

I bought it and so far don’t love it. Probs going to delete until it’s a complete game then put the time in. It seems like a very repetitive game and I am a little confused on the hype of it after playing. One of those games where you aren’t necessarily addicted to the game but addicted to the feeling of leveling up.

is it still fun without in-game purchases? Or in-game purchases are a big part of getting through the game. I didnt buy the game because i feel they will enforce ingame purchases to make the game more one or to create a much better build.

So far once you get past, the start game is great at the start. It’s pathetically difficult but you get pressed that pretty quick.
