Tang was so influential that Chinese characters were adopted by Japanese and Korean. The latter invented a new language, which is ingenious in its own right, but still use Chinese characters for names of people and places; and the Japanese language still has Kanji characters. Zen Buddhism and Tang architecture largely survived and thrived in Japan too. Katana was originally based on Tang Dao. Korea perhaps received a larger influence later from Ming, 8 centuries after the peak of Tang. A fascinating period of Chinese / Asian history indeed.

The Tang Dynasty was one of the few Chinese dynasties that did not rely on the Great Wall because their armies fought outside the Great Wall

“Li Bai is called the god of poetry.” That’s a misunderstanding of his title. What is interpreted here as “god” in Chinese “xian” refers to an other-worldliness characteristic of the Daoist mentality. The point here is not that he is a great poet, but his perspective and attitude on life is the pursuit of the individual spirit separate from society.

A similar problem exists in calling Du Fu “the saint of poetry.” The Chinese word “Shen” can sometimes be substituted by “saint” but not here. “Shen” refers to the pursuit of virtues that relate to our role in society and family, such as compassion, social conscience. Du Fu, unlike Li Bai, was very concerned with the social injustice of his time.

At that time, the per capita food in Europe was less than 1/6 of that in the Tang Dynasty!
You can imagine how rich the Tang Dynasty was. Chang'an City was the most populous city in ancient times.

A correction. You mentioned Manchuria, but at that time there was no Manchuria. Manchuria was created by the japanese in the 19th century in an attempt to divide China. Manchuria means the place of the Manchu. The word “Manchu” was created by the Qing emperor to call themselves Manchu instead of Jurchen. Before the Qing dynasty, there was no Manchu people, but these people were called Jurchen.

FYI: that commander led the battle in talas was a Korean. It’s very common in this time that foreigners were be able to take roles in the imperial court. Tai zong even had Ashina She’er, a surrendered Turkic Khan to guard his palace, without fearing the former khan will assassinate him. His confidence, open mind, and inclusive character truly made him one of the most outstanding emperors.

Li Jing's 3000 horsemen were led by vanguard Su Lie, another legendary general who joined the rebel forces together with his father against the former dynasty. He often charged ahead of his men while fighting, he was later recruited by Tang and became a well known general who helped Tang defeating multiple enemy states in the north&west such as Turk, Tibet, and east( Baekjie and Goguryeo).

The capital of Tang Dynasty-- Chang'an is the biggest city in the world with more than one million a thousand years ago. Kyoto, Japanese capital at that time actually is the small copy of Chang'an city. Japan sent tremendous amount of students come to Tang to learn its culture, art, architecture and so on... And they create their own language after that. As the Chinese saying goes, "If you wanna go to learn Tang Dynasty, you need to visit Japan". And nowadays, it is a pity that many traditional things have been disappeared in China but find in Japan. It is a really complicated mood for Chinese people!

Great Video man! <3
However I would say the Battle of Talas was no where as disastrous as the An Lushan Rebellion.
For one thing, the Tang was already familiar with wars against Islamic caliphates. Before the Battle of Talas the Tang defeated the Umayyad Caliphate twice in the region- especially in the Battle of Aksu (717). Though Talas was an upset, at the time of Tala's loss, the Tang still had a standing army in the millions. I would argue that the Tang losses to the small kingdom of Nanzhao in modern Yunnan was much more catastrophic because of the ratio of the upset. But all of them can't compare to the An Lushan Rebellion because it destroyed the interior of the empire and destroyed the imperial infrastructure from within- it was then that the Tang was truly beaten. Even conservative estimates still places the death toll of the rebellion in tens of millions.

Also, the Abbassid Caliphate and the Tang both made up very fast after the battle, only a decade later the Abbassid would support the Tang by sending 3000 cavalry during the An Lushan Rebellion in support of the Tang, a generation later Harun Al Rashid would conclude an alliance with the Tang because both were threatened by a resurgent and dominant Tibetan Empire.

I think part of Tang’s success attributable to its policy of opening to the world. Chang An was a place where people from all over the world could stay and live. A lot of government officers were foreigners too, such as An Lushan.

just saying, a Chinese emperor would never utter words of the common people such as “我很聪明”.

A Tang Dynasty video without even mentioning Wu Zetian who was effectively Empress Regnant ruler of China. She ruled decades longer than Taizong bringing equality between man and woman. Also the Daming Palace was and is the largest palace complex ever built by any civilization in human history, larger than 5 American football fields.

"明君"≠"我很聪明"."明君" means a wise monarch, who was kind to his people.
