Everybody loves fresh squeezed juice, but for a Canadian in California it holds a particularly special place: Being able to pluck fresh orange, grapefruit and lemons from trees and juice them into your glass moments later is a novelty that never wears off. The only thing about juicing fresh citrus is that it can be both messy and tiring working with a manual juicer or reamer. That’s why I’ve been looking into powered options. In this review I’ll check out the electric Cuisinart Citrus Juicer, aka Cuisinart CCJ-500P1 Pulp Control Citrus Juicer,, take a look at any special features it has, what it’s like to clean up, and if I think I can recommend it for you.

There’s not much in the way of set up or assembly with this juicer. It arrives fully assembled but the top part of the machine comes apart into four pieces for cleanup; there's the base tray, reamer and pulp filter basket. A clear plastic cover will keep the juicer from getting dusty. One task you do need to take care of before you start juicing is to click the spout outlet down so that the juice will flow freely.
When it comes to set up: Plug it in, and you’re ready to go. When you press down on the juicing head the machine will start automatically. Each time you press down it will reverse direction to ensure it’s scraping out all the juice from the pith.

I tried a variety of citrus fruits with this juicer and found it was able to handle all of them easily and without feeling like it was laboring.

The juicer head and it's dual basket-reamer design is adjustable by twisting it and this allows you to create more of a filter for the pulp. If the holes are all the way open more pulp ends up in your juice, but twisting them slightly closed will result in a more strained beverage.
This is a great juicer for making a lot of juice for the family. There’s no work on your part and it seems to be able to extract every last drop with ease, carving the citrus peel virtually empty.
When it comes to the cleanup, the juicing head pieces (which are made of plastic) can be put into the top rack of the dishwasher, or easily hand washed in the sink.

Overall this is the best juicer you can buy in my opinion. I've had one of these for about 5 years and I love it.

It has a compact footprint and it’s not too tall making it easy to store in almost any cupboard. It’s AC-powered operation means no recharging, so it’s always ready to go. The directional reverse helps extract all the juice, and the fact I can toss everything into the dishwasher when I’m done means I use this almost every day.

When it comes to downsides, there's really nothing to dislike; perhaps the biggest complaint I could make is that it could come with a cup or pitcher to store your juice. I can absolutely recommend this juicer to you, and I think it’s at a particularly affordable price too! Selling for 29USD/$69CAD (don't even get me started on that price discrepancy!) it's a great value for all the work it will save you.
I get to try out a lot of appliances in my work. See what using a $1000 stand mixer is like or see some of the appliances and gadgets I use in real life… right now.
