I own one of these, after having owned the previous generation too. Amazing suv probably second only to the Cayenne Turbo GT. I hate to say it, but I don’t think you ever took it off comfort settings. At least on the screen that’s what it’s showing. When you move it to M1 or M2 the M setting dash that you have on the screen highlights in red what the settings are for engine, chassis, suspension, etc. It seems like you have it always in comfort. Also the reason why you didn’t feel a difference in the transmission settings was because you didn’t hit the gas. In the top setting, the transmission is MUCH faster and aggressive albeit not as much as previous gen.

Great vehicle, very good at what it does. My mom has an X5 40i and it’s fantastic. You do some of the luxury features (cooled seats, massage seats, better ride) when you step up to the true M-cars for the sake of performance. I think the M50i is the sweet spot — $92k with pretty much every option, still does 0-60 under 4 sec.

The 1, 2, 3 transmission is for aggressiveness of gear change. If you're not driving aggressive you won't notice the change so much. It doesn't delay gear change. It's kicks it in more violently

Without a DCT, all the new M cars transmissions only shift at higher RPM's when you change the settings, no more choosing a harsher shove. Boo!

The Taxi version of German SUV’s yea they’re really good at making you look like a Dodge driver. I can’t think of a better waste of money than buying anything from the #4 automaker in Germany.
