Snake Behavior Tips and Tricks

This video goes through a number of tips and tricks on snake behavior that will help you understand and work with your snake more effectively. Many of these tips have to do with reducing fear in your snake. I also give my favorite tip on an alternative to hook training. The focus here is on ball pythons with the exception of the hook training alternative, which I use for my super-dwarf reticulated python - but these tips can be applied to many species of snake.

The best feeling in the world is my ball python coming out of her hide when I come into the room. She’s so comfortable with me and my existence in this space, that she’ll come out of her hides to find out what I’m up to. 🥰
Earning a snakes trust, is such a beautiful rewarding thing.

I haven't target trained my bp yet. It's kinda funny, though. When I started feeding my corn snake I would put a plastic lid on top of her substrate in hopes that she wouldn't get substrate particals in her mouth. Now, when I put the lid in there, she automatically knows it's feeding time. She is so cute watching her just sit and wait for her food. It is like her little plate.😂

That is one fearless little BP! I have learned so much watching you and your snakes. 💜

we need a "day in the life when you have one or more of your snakes out for a play time it would be awesome to have a session following and watching, with you narrating what's going on and where they are exploring. It's so fun when you show your snakes during their activities. Longer videos of this would be pretty cool. Us without snakes only get what we see on video and it never gets boring. 🙂

I've been using the open tub technique with my yearling Mojave maybe twice a night when I see her at the front, and it's impressive how fast she is becoming braver

Going to try the advice on statuing! My little guy seems fairly "bold" in some contexts, but freezes a lot in others. I'll try to remember the "open table" thing and not 👀 at him so much... it's hard not to obsess when there is just one pet!

Thanks as always for sharing your experience! Love all the b-roll and footage of snakes

I finally got ball python baby few weeks ago. I got really lucky. He is not skittish, not hiding all the time, basks under uv bulb everyday for a while. A very good eater too so far. I took a gamble and offered food few days after I got him and gave him rat pup with fur (because the pinkies it had used to looked way too small) and it ate with no hesitation. He has eaten few times now and does not hesitate to strike. Really cool little dude.

Thank you so much for this video! Through this, I learned that I wasn’t being patient enough for my new little girl, who is so shy ☹️ so thank you for these tips! I’ll try them!

I’m at work so can’t finish the video but the glass surfing section has answered a lot of questions for me. Lilly likes to explore and “glass surf” I always thought it was because she had gotten out a few times but now that I see it’s fairly normal that makes me feel better!

Stellar video Bob! One thing my wife and I do before we take our scale babies out, is gently rub them. We rub them with our hand for about a minute, and then they start crawling up our arm. None are head shy. Keep the awsome videos coming West Coast G.O.A.T 👍🏾.

I gave my 2.5yo clown a box with a hole in it to dispense rags from. Like a tissue box but bigger. She’s been playing with it for 2 days now! Nonstop! Climbing on it, going in it, moving it around and she even slept in it last night instead of one of her hides

Thanks for another great video! Good to see that the Patreon list is getting longer - we enjoyed the "Patreon credit scroll" song, and congratulations on the growing membership. We're going to try the box fort idea next time we have a bunch of deliveries. It looks like D.I. Rorschach really enjoyed that!
