For Nikon to have a 'filmmaker pathway' from the Z6III/Z8/Z9 or any future sub-$6k cameras to the RED cameras, they have to replace the RF mount with the Z mount.

A boss move would be Lumix acquiring Blackmagic. Let the battle of RAW commence! How could this potentially impact Canon's internal RAW recording?

Nikon: “you can now license our RAW codec….for $3 per iPhone sold”

does this mean RAW is on the table for everyone now or...?

Nikon will have a short cut to Global shutter for a Z9Mk? to compete with Sony A9MkIII

A Red sensor in a Nikon camera for photography would be amazing! I have a Nikon camera & I don’t really like the look. My Leica blows it away. But a Red sensor would compete with Leica.

The biggest question is, will this limit RAW-recording in camera to Nikon and RED or will Nikon make it available to all manufacturers in Japan?

The huge benefit for Nikon is the acquisition of cinema Dng licensing to other camera manufacturers.

The scary thing is how far behind Nikon has been left by other video features cameras. Their long time short sightedness and how that blindness will possibly ruin RED as a cinema leader.

As a NIKON user I have come here to laugh and chew bubble gum and I'm all out of bubble gum.

I have the smoke machines. The large one. The rate is on or off, no real control of amount

Funny how RED sued Nikon not that long ago. I guess that's one way to overcome conflicts of interest... If you can't join them, buy them.

wait, if nikon acquires red, that means they will finally remove the raw patent and everybody will have access, right? or will they continue with the absurd patent themselves too?

Imagine if they bought RED and lifted the patent on internal raw

I know both sides are trying to put a positive spin on it, but seeing the "Red Revolution" absorbed into an old Japanese corporate structure doesn't bode well.

Will they boot the management and become more respectable and less scammy! .. I would feel way way more inclined to use RED hardware…under new ownership. I always liked the gear but the management and asshole practices were a big problem. Here is hoping this shakeup will be very good for the industry. Especially in regards to blocking the rest of the industry with raw codec licensing.

Atomos charges for certain firmware when they bring new features for their recorders. Now Camera Manftr SHOULD release firmware updates IF THEIR cameras are having integration problems (say Lanses or Flashes) or software issues HELLO CANON!!!!
