Dr. Sandel's way of engaging with the questioners was so refreshing and endearing. I also like how he insists on clarifying what exactly the questioner means and subtely forcing them to have courage in voicing out and spell out their thoughts. We need more gentle and kinder discussions like this and eventually and debate between the various view points holders which doesnt devolve into disrespect, name calling and dismissing the others' idea.

Brilliant lecture by Prof. Sandel. A very strong argument for deliberative democracy- and the idea for deliberation with a sense of openness. Democracy as deliberation requires listening for the principles underlying a position that we do not agree with. We've really lost our ability to have these conversations - so much of this is because of our social media driven attention spans that prioritize labelling and ad hominem arguments over doing the hard work of fully understanding the full moral and philosophical import of an argument.

There is no common good which is just a smoke screen for whatever project a politician wants. We have a constitution with rights. We "believe" in capitalism because it works. I have never heard of anyone complain about the "hubris" of the elites except Sandel.

Though, I feel until and unless elites of the society ensure prosperity to the people instead of giving moral sermons and see themselves differently than commoners, it will always end up in tyranny.

What a fantastic discussion ! Dr. sandel is great.. old fan here of course ! He’s done more to teach me philosophy of law than my legal degree did !

But - the anchors can do a lot to actually reflect on their view of India. They are the definition of disconnected liberals who have no idea what’s happening in their country and so they end up jumping to lazy and easy conclusions. It would have been so much better had the anchors asked a lot more informed questions than the ones they did.

I truly admire Dr sandal who may not know as much about India, but instinctively is spot on, than these guys !

Electoral bonds are bearer bonds which are meant to create anonymity it’s like printing a 1Cr currency note so it’s compacting money making it easier to launder and in many jurisdictions is classified as high risk of financial crime. This was pointed by the then RBI governor which was ignored.
