2 lessons that day. 1. The proper chord form 2. Some players are assholes 💀

Most blues and jazz players would have just taught you right on the spot.

Damn, dude could have handled that way differently

Two amazing revelations:
1) somewhere out there they have jam sessions where they actually play Louie Louie
2) people STILL find a way to turn it into a piss fest.

How many of us who play by ear, get shown the "real" chords, and you think, damn! Lol

the best music is made when all egos are checked at the door and everyone is there to serve the song

This is why I go to blues jam sessions only. I’m young, and most of the time there’s a bunch of really chill older guys that’ll show you all their tips and tricks, and teach you a lot and not in a rude way

Love the pent-up anger on the E minor chord

I was picked by a couple of older guys to play bass in their jazz trio. Up to this point I had just played rock guitar and I was pretty good. These guys were decades older than me but they had an interesting way to teach me basic jazz techniques. They would give me the chart and walk me through the changes, ONCE! Then we would work on something else. No pressure, no recriminations just ok, next. If I didn’t perform well on my only chance this week to get it right I would spend the rest of the week practicing and woodshedding just to have the piano player smile and look up at me and nod. Great feeling of accomplishment and it never required any bad feelings or douchie behavior. I’ll never forget those old timers and all I learned from them.

This reminds me of when I was asked on stage at a Real Mackenzies gig to play guitar.
The guitarist asked me "do you know F-sharp?" So I said yeah and laid down an F chord.
The guitarist just smiled, gently took my hand and corrected my position.

One of the best gigs I ever went to. Small venue, lots of crowd interaction and just an all around good time. :')

He wasn't playing the wrong chords, he was playing with the wrong people!

As a person that has been in charge of people before. You politely pull them to the side and correct them. You do not humiliate them

Jam session is about sharing, having fun, learning and improving.
People like this "pointing guy" is a reason why some musicians stop playing music.

The fact is that most people in the audience wouldn’t notice it and wouldn’t even care just as long as you got the grooove and the rhythm going along

this is why I always liked to learn by ear. all the subtle nuances are magical

He could play bar chords, but didn't know what a minor chord was. Amazing. Gives me hope for my playing

Every band needs someone with that guys attention to detail, but he didn't need to be a dick about it 😂

I hate when people are so quick to point out mistakes or lack of knowledge instead of just helping you out since they obviously already know better, like why be an asshole instead of help get them on your level of knowledge? I love an opportunity to teach someone something related to music and help them understand more

Still doesn't change the fact that that guy was a jerk!
