I’ve used the double click for ages. Soon as I found out about relay attacks I asked the dealer. No need for a pouch.
However, I’m not sure that it deadlocks the car. The term deadlock has a particular meaning that usually refers to the lock itself and not the means of operating it.
Not with my car so will check later but I think double clicking only stops the key transmitting it’s always on signal.
If I’m right it means that the spare key you have in the house will be your undoing unless you double click that too.

This has been the functionality in our cars I’ve owned were I was driving stopped at home with my wife jumping in the drivers seat. She went to the store and I went in the house with the key in my pocket. She of course returned shortly looking for the key as she noticed the warning on the dash. BUT it allowed her to drive away.

I agree though it seems like a security issue and is surprising that car manufactures allow someone to continue to drive your vehicle without the key fob. I would think it wouldn’t allow them to put car in drive without it.

I don't think its a bad thing to drive without a key because when your key is out of battery, the car cannot detect the presence of the key while you are driving. However, it is dangerous if the car suddenly stops when it cannot detect the presence of the key.

Just got stranded and nearly died, because we switched drivers and the first driver got out of the car, and then I continued driving into the frigid cold boonies with no key fob.

Not very good if you are carjacked. Perhaps, in that case, the car should operate normally for 15-30 seconds, to separate you from the thief and then go into limp mode to render it useless for a getaway.

this is a major flaw, if the key is not detected then the car should automatically slow down and cut power. that way to prevent people stealing it. if you dont have they key and ignore the cars warning and drive, that is your own fault.

I also hate that if I turn the car on and leave it running, I can’t use the key to lock it. One time I turned mine on and had to use the Mercedes Me app to lock it. However, when I came back outside, neither the door, key fob, nor app would unlock the car. It was running for more than thirty minutes without me being able to get inside. About another fifteen minutes after that was I able to unlock the car and get inside to disengage the engine. The car should shutdown automatically if it doesn’t detect the key and you attempt to shift it out of park.
