The reason its ink and paper is because back in the day they would just melt down the coins and sell it as pure raw material for a profit. Also ink and paper is more secure and easier to carry around

Who says gold has value? It the same as currency (“ ink and paper”) they only have value when people think it’s valuable.

Money is a symbol for value.

It's unwise to have your symbol also be a somewhat useful resource that is limited in amount. There's a lot more ink and paper than there is gold, it would be stupid to swap out our current currency for pure gold.

As well, the fact money is a symbol for value means that all the horrible symptoms of money in a free market are a symptom of the fact people wish to have more value in which to use.

Money was never a source of happiness it is just a medium of exchange you cannot use gold, silver or copper as a medium of exchange because there too many fucking people and resources are limited . Its just people who think money brings happiness. You can find true happiness after you struggled for it .

The whole reason for paper money is ease of transaction.

Back when bartering was the only form of trade, one might want anothers product but wont have something the other wants.

With paper money, there is no such issue as there is one universal currency everyone wants.

It isn't some sort of elaborate scheme.

Yeah except that money makes everything valuable. If you grow only cabbages you can now use money to buy a house, food, a car, etc. Whereas in the past your cabbages are only worth as much as someone will trade with you... Or you know, they rot. Money has given 99% of society mobility they could only dream of in the past.
