JVGA Swing revisited - Jim Venetos golf swing

In one of my most popular videos where I tested the Jim Venetos golf swing (JVGA swing) I did a lot of mistakes. So after reading the comments on my old video I am back testing the Jim Venetos golf swing again.

Here is my old video:

Worth mentioning that I have never taken Jims online school, so this is just me experimenting on the range again. But there is someting to his swing. It does actually work. Here is my revisit to the JVGA swing.

In my experience, Jim’s swing helps me eliminate a lot of ”X” factors. It keeps my body, hands and mind quiet. It seems to focus and simplify my swing. Huge fan here!

I see that I still don't manage to stay still, but at least I managed to stay more closed than last time. Hope you like the video, and if you have any questions, please ask.

I have tried the JV swing a few times, I hit some crazy nice shots, but had trouble hitting a draw consistently. The swing needs hand manipulation, hinging the wrists through as the club is on the downswing.Set up straight, pivot closed to the target, strong grip on the club. Staying closed on the downswing, quiet lower body. Hinging the wrists quickly through on the downswing.
It's a great swing once you get it right!!

I started JVS a lil over a month ago, and I see a huge improvement in everything, short game, long game, putting, basically on one leg. Suffered a ruptured quadriceps tendon on my trail leg (left) in July. Still wearing a brace and doing PT. I know w/o a doubt, that once I’m back close to 💯 as my 62 yo body will allow, I only expect my game to skyrocket.

I guess due to the injury, and the approval from my surgeon, and my desire to just start back with only my putter, and build gradually up to driver, was kinda a 💡 moment of truly grasping the saying “strike ball, don’t hit”

Btw being that I prefer a pendulum stroke, his putting courses are a blessing 🙏🏿. I played several rounds since I started course 6 weeks ago, friends and unknowns have applauded my putting. It’s a tremendous feeling whenever you need to get up and down for birdie/par that you know if you can just get it up, you’ll get it down in 2 or less; or birdie/ eagle 😎.

I’ve seen Jim’s technique and I will say this. He really makes it work for him at the range and when he plays. I’m skeptical on if the average Joe can make this work and I’d love to see Jim play a course with multiple awkward lies. Side hill, ball above and below feet as well as uphill and downhill.

Played just before Christmas and shot an appalling 101.
Went out yesterday using Jim's technique and shot 83..needless to say I am a convert.

I’ve started implementing this on the course and it works (with plenty of distance too)

Keep your weight on the lead foot. You are moving your weight between front and back foot.

I've been trying his swing too. I keep moving my feet too much, Jim always emphasizes keeping your feet still. It's definitely an odd swing but it works

You are missing the most important component of the swing . The weight in left foot and the “stillness” of the core .

Your legs are moving …And your chest is rotating …Try to be still like Jim.You’re not really performing Jim’s swing …you’re just adding some of his to yours …Try to do what he does .

I have tried the JV swing, a traditional swing too, I have landed on a hybrid between the two. Shawn Clement, Todd Kolb, and Kirk Junge all have a part in there. It seems to work for me.

Bro, lose the shoulder rotation in your backswing. It's ARMS, not a torso/shoulder swing. Practice small swings, no ball.... to get that feel. The ball will STILL GO, trust me! Yes, I'm a JV student.

I'm going to go against the grain here and possibly open myself up to show my ignorance of the mechanics of a golf swing - isn't this a swing that just works for Jim as he developed it for his body and his swing and style ? If he stood with feet parallel to target, wouldn't he be getting a huge draw that takes him way right of target? Therefore, that right leg being taken back at such an angle just counteracts that draw? I think he mentions in a video that he has a very strong grip, which also points to a natural drawer of ball. And as for the weight and pivot on the left leg, that is the basis of the stack and tilt swing, which this might be considered a variant of?

It’s a great swing if all you want to hit are pull hooks.

Just can’t see how this would work with longer irons and driver

Your core moves a bit. Keep it still and you'll really improve.

You need to stay more still. Stillness is something he preaches ALOT. I'm thinking of going back to it myself.

Still to much movement in the lower body.

You are still shifting your weight to the trail leg and pushing off with the trail foot, and a bunch of other stuff. If your viewers are interested in the JV swing, then they should watch the free ones on YouTube. Don't make a judgement on this "test". The swing is not being done properly here.
